BVAFTL
(Bega Valley Advocates For Timor Leste
Incorporated INC9882607)
The Bega advocacy group was formed
out of a resolution at a public meeting held at the Bega High School hall on
Friday 28th May 2004. The Mayor, Cr. David Hede, chaired the meeting. The
charter for the group is to
"advocate for the people of East Timor" with the goal of providing physical,
financial, intellectual and practical support in whatever way is appropriate
after a process of assessment and consultation. Preliminary steps in achieving
this are to dialogue with the leadership of east Timor and to send a delegation
from the Bega Valley to look at the issues "on the ground". Upon return the
delegation will report to the community and make recommendations as to future
steps for the advocacy group.
The Group Was Incorporated as Not for Profit
Organisation on 20 October 2004.
